Description: February 23, 2011 —Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich joined California State University, Los Angeles President Dr. James Rosser, students, officials and members of the community in breaking ground on the new permanent home of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts on the campus of Cal State University Los Angeles.
“Today’s groundbreaking of the new $25 million arts high school campus is the realization of a dream,” said Antonovich, a LACHSA co-founder. “This school is the premier destination for 600 talented young artists in our communities who will now have a 45,000 square foot building with 21 classrooms, a theater and outdoor stage area to develop their talent, achieve their academic goals and prepare for college.”
“Along with Caroline Ahmanson, whose daughter Margo O’Connell and granddaughter are here today, Al Dorskind, Joan Boyett, and Bella Lewinsky were also integral in this process.”
Established in 1985, LACHSA is a tuition-free choice public school that combines college preparatory academic courses with conservatory-style training in the visual and performing arts. Construction started in February 2011, with the grand opening slated for the fall semester in September 2012.
The 9th and 12th grade student body comes from all parts of Los Angeles County.
